GLENN SMITH ASSOCIATES was established in 1978 with a project which received national acclaim
and a R.A.I.A. Merit Award - the recycling of Launceston's Crown Mill Building.
G.S.A. has since expanded and developed a capability to handle a wide variety of significant commissions,
dealing successfully with the complexities of design and management in a wide range of projects. Clients
include Government Departments, autonomous public bodies, private companies and individuals.
The firm's architectural design approach is a complete process encompassing considerations of planning,
environment and technology. The practice melds these into a cohesive solution which represents the art of
providing for functional needs within the technical framework of a building.
The firm's design disciplines encompass the broad range of town planning, urban design, architecture,
interior design and landscape architecture. Each project is viewed as a comprehensive design task ensuring
that all G.S.A. clients are offered this complete range of services.
The disciplines are conducted under the direction of the firm's key personnel:
GLENN SMITH is an architect and town planner who initiates design activities within the organisation.
CAROL SMITH is an architect whose special interest is translating client needs into appropriate interior
architecture.
Associates, ROBERT CARROLL and PAUL COCKBURN provide design, documentation and project
management skills to G.S.A.'s projects.
The Principals manage a team of other architects and design professionals, backed by automated systems
for the support and delivery of our services. Apart from the usual word processing and computer based
information systems for administration and financial purposes, Glenn Smith Associates operates a fully
developed Computer Aided Design and Drafting system. The system was introduced in 1986 and since that
time has been continually developed to meet the demands of today's professional environment.
Glenn Smith Associates has a strong reputation for design and planning in a sensitive manner, relating to
and in context with the local environment. The practice produces sensitive new buildings which are
designed for current and future needs, and which represent the most up-to-date technology for the modern
working and living environment. The high quality of G.S.A.'s end product is evidenced by receipt of twelve
R.A.I.A. merit awards, a B.O.M.A. State Award and a B.O.M.A. National Certificate of Merit. The projects
for which these awards were received are shown in the attached list.
Tasmania's Claremont Education Park, Western Australia's Midvale Velodrome and Victoria's William Angliss
Housing development are testimony to the practice's ability to produce innovative design solutions. Federal
and State Government Departments and private clients from all parts of Australia engage Glenn Smith
Associates to handle a variety of commissions ranging from complete project responsibility through to
traditional primary consultancy. We undertake to offer our clients the highest professional standards and
our full commitment to their projects.
